SolarSAT: solar radiation analysis, photovoltaic plant design, cost estimation,
control and management in a single website
SolarSAT is a new fully customizable integrated system for companies dealing with
photovoltaic plant design, installation and selling, for companies and bodies in
charge of their maintenance, for inverter and photovoltaic module manufacturers
and distributors, and for agencies and bodies involved in renewable energy system
promotions.
By accessing both archive and real time satellite data, the SolarSAT system offers
two types of services that can be distributed either as independent or as combined
services: PVPlanner and PV-Controller
SolarSAT PVPlanner
SolarSAT PVPlanner is a web service that allows to evaluate the feasibility and
convenience of a new plant and to get the related cost/profit estimation at the
same time. PVPlanner is addressed to every potential customer wishing to consider
the opportunity of setting up a photovoltaic plant. The service first provides the
expected hypothetic plant productivity, taking into account the typical solar radiation
energy values for the chosen plant locality. Such evaluation is based on solar irradiance
historical satellite data, collected during the last 10 or 20 years.
The potential customer, or the designer himself, will then be able to start the
plant’s design, according to the required energy needs or to the desired nominal
power. The plant components (modules, inverters, …) can be combined in the
optimal way.
PVPlanner then takes into account the selected component features and prices, together
with the fiscal parameters imposed by the current law, the maintenance costs, the
tax incentives and the savings related to the estimated energy productivity.
PVPlanner finally provides a set of economic parameters allowing for the investment
convenience evaluation (e.g. Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, breakeven
point, etc.).
PVPlanner can be completely customizable (also in terms of available plant components)
for those companies or agencies wishing to offer the service to their customers
through the web. The service can indeed be integrated in existing web portals as
an outsourcing solution.
SolarSAT PVController
SolarSAT PVController is an hardware-software integrated system for the remote control
of photovoltaic plants (regardless of the size) via web.
PVController allows for the plant efficiency control by comparing the effective
hourly energy production with the expected one, which is computed basing on the
effective solar irradiance on the plant, either derived from real time satellite
data, or measured by in situ sensors. In case of significant difference between
the effective energy production and the expected one, the person who’s responsible
for the plant maintenance is alerted via e-mail or SMS, so that he can decide for
a possible maintenance.

A set of dataloggers and sensors of the SolarSAT series is associated to PVController
service: these can be adapted to any kind and size of plants and interfaced to any
inverter.
A whole PV park can be managed through a single simple and effective web interface
thanks to PVController. Installing the dataloggers is simple and it doesn’t
usually require any configuration by the operator, as this is done via web-GPRS.
Moreover, thanks to the GPRS data link, there is no need for a fixed phone line
at the plant. All the proposed dataloggers can be used for the plant monitoring
by satellite and by in situ sensors, which measure the plant’s physical parameters.
Thanks to its background in the field of environmental monitoring and of spectroradiometers
manufacturing for solar radiation measurements, Flyby has selected reliable, high
performances and easy-to-install components, all at the same time.
The SolarSAT integrated system is available in several configurations and it is
fully customizable for every company or agency wishing to distribute it to its customers.
